The deal, announced on Monday, would create the largest U.S. power company and will affect many Tampa residents. In Florida alone, Progress Energy has 7.1 million customers, including many Tampa Bay area residents. We have yet to see what this deal will do for Tampa residents; however, many industry analysts predict that hundreds of millions of dollars each year will be saved by consumers.
Duke Energy and Progress Energy’s mix of coal, nuclear, natural gas, oil and renewable resources will total approximately 57 gigawatts of U.S. generating capacity. To put that amount of power into context, the top selling Generac generators, the Guardian series, is capable of generating 20kW of electricity.
